Kimbo Slice Fights
Kimbo Slice, Miami Street Fighter // Kimbo vs Houston Alexander

Bahamian Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) professional fighter Kevin ‘Kimbo Slice’ Ferguson, speaking exclusively with The Nassau Guardian yesterday, disclosed plans to venture into the professional boxing arena as soon as his contract is fulfilled.

The 35-year-old 6′2″, 235-pound phenomenon expressed these intentions on Monday, a day before returning to his Miami, Florida based home. Ferguson became a household name after signing a professional contract with Showtime’s EliteXC in 2007. Before that, he gained notoriety on the underground fighting scene through the Internet.

“Boxing is really my first desire. I have a lot of love for it and believe I can do pretty well. [The sport of] MMA is somewhat of a project for me. Boxing is one dimensional while there are a lot of dimensions in MMA. I don’t think it would be a hard transition from MMA to stand-up boxing because of my fighting style,” noted Ferguson, who has brought international prestige to The Bahamas through his MMA exploits.

Kimbo’s cousin, Olympic Judo fighter Rhadi Ferguson has asked that people stop criticizing Kimbo and try to appreciate the popularity he’s brought to the sport of MMA, for better or for worse.

But he’s also asked that people stop asking why he doesn’t train with Kimbo, being a world-renowned strength trainer and Judo coach:

Please, no more questions about why Kimbo Slice is not training with Rhadi Ferguson.  I’m sure that Kevin has some excellent reasons of why he hasn’t returned many of my phone calls and why we talked earlier but cannot speak now. I’m sure he is receiving some excellent advice about his martial arts career and I can assure you that he is at no loss for money right now.

So just a few weeks after Kimbo Slice’s last fight with the organization, EliteXC has officially gone bankrupt. They were having money trouble for a long time which is real common with these types of companies.

This means your boy Kimbo Slice is now a free agent. Unfortunately he went out on a low note, but there’s no denying he’s still a draw, so it’s a safe bet that he’ll get picked up by some other MMA company.

If not, do you think Kimbo will back to street fights?

After Kimbo Slice’s October opponent, Seth Petruzelli, made comments on a radio show suggesting their fight may have been fixed or influenced, the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulations, which oversees the state’s boxing commission, investigated the fighters and the organization.

Kimbo in Kung Fu U

August 4th, 2008

In case you heard the rumor, it is true. Kimbo Slice, the guy who became famous as a streetfighter and bodyguard for porn stars, is going to be starring in a kids movie. It’s called Kung Fu U, and it’s about a group of kids who get sent to a martial arts school to learn self defense. Oh, and Hulk Hogan’s also in it.

“We’re very happy to have Kimbo Slice co-starring in ‘Kung Fu U,” Schwartz said. “He has an enormous media presence, and he’ll fit right in with our star Hulk Hogan, and the other cast members in our made for kids 3-D movie.”

I’m not sure if this is funny or just really stupid, but Kimbo has the star power now so expect to see more of this.
